बाधक Bādhaka

Prashna Marga states the rule for signs by modality: from a chara sign the eleventh therefrom is the badhaka-sthana, from a sthira sign the ninth, from a dvisvabhava sign the seventh — the lord of that place is the badhakesh. Practice applies it from the lagna first and the Moon second, and in prashna work from the bhava under query; the Kerala tradition also weighs Rahu and Ketu as co-lords where the badhaka sign is Kumbha or Vrishchika.

— Prashna Marga bādhaka prakaraṇa

Whole-sign houses make the mapping static per lagna: the badhaka sign and badhakesh follow from the ascendant alone. The reading then turns on the badhakesh's seat (the house it occupies — occupation of the badhaka-sthana itself concentrates the theme), the houses it aspects from there (the 7th from its seat, plus the special aspects when the badhakesh is Mars, Jupiter or Saturn), its dignity, and its dasha timing — the badhakesh's antardasha windows are the practical resolution, a mahadasha being too broad. Where the badhakesh also holds benefic lordships for the lagna, its periods carry a mixed signature that must be read house by house. Because the rule is sign-based and houses follow whole signs, every house's sign yields its own badhaka and badhakesh — a systematic extension of the classical statement, used when judging obstruction to a specific bhava's matters.

Your placement is shown in the band above: this states where Badhaka falls in your chart and links each term to its page.
