The seventh house governs marriage, partnership, and the other person generally — spouse, business partner, the public one deals with. It is the mirror of the first: the self as met by another.
Parashara assigns to the yuvati (kalatra) bhava the spouse, marriage, desire, trade and travel, and — as a maraka — matters of longevity. A kendra whose benefic occupation and strong lord promise a devoted partner and profitable exchange; malefic affliction here is the classical starting point of marriage-difficulty analysis.

Venus is karaka (with Jupiter for the husband in a woman's chart, per convention), so the reading runs on three legs: the 7th house, its lord, and Venus — affliction must be counted on each before a conclusion. Nodes on the 7th or with Venus, Saturn or the Sun on the 7th, and paapa kartari are the standard cautions, each with named cancellations; the 2nd, 4th, 8th and 12th enter as the family, home, mangalya and bed supports. In business work the 7th doubles as the house of the counterparty and of trade itself.
