राहु Rāhu

Parashara describes Rahu as smoky in appearance, of tamasic outcaste nature, harsh of speech, dwelling in forests. A shadow graha (chhaya graha), he has no rashi of his own in the strict scheme and acts largely through the lord of the sign he occupies, while later tradition assigns him strength in the signs of Mercury and Saturn. He is a karaka for foreign lands, unconventional paths, and maternal grandparents, and gives results resembling Saturn's.
