वृश्चिक Vṛścika

Parashara describes Vrishchika as a fixed watery sign, female, brahmin in the classical listing, rising head-first, reddish-brown, dwelling in holes and crevices. Its lord is Mangala; Chandra is debilitated here at the 3rd degree; the classical seven take no exaltation in it.

— Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra ch. 4 (Rāśi Svarūpa)

A sthira jala-tattva sign ruled by Mars, hosting the Moon's debilitation (deepest 3°) — the emotional signature the sign is famous for. On the platform's node convention Ketu is co-lord here. For Vrishchika lagna the Moon (9th lord) turns functionally precious despite her fall risk in the lagna, and the Sun–Moon pair carry the trine lordships, making the luminaries' strength the first thing to check.
