The Sun is exalted in Mesha (deepest at 10°), debilitated in Tula, has moolatrikona in Simha 0°–20° and own sign Simha thereafter. Natural friends are the Moon, Mars and Jupiter; Venus and Saturn are enemies; Mercury is neutral. The Sun combusts other grahas that come too close to it, but is never combust itself; its strength rises with directional strength in the 10th house and in the day half of the chart. Debilitation in Tula can be cancelled by neecha bhanga conditions, most commonly through a well-placed Venus or Saturn.
