मेष Meṣa

Parashara describes Mesha as a movable (chara) fiery sign, male, kshatriya by caste, rising with its hinder part (prishtodaya), ruddy, dwelling in the east and roaming the hills. Its lord is Mangala; the Sun is exalted here at the 10th degree and Saturn debilitated.

A chara (movable) agni-tattva sign ruled by Mars: planets here express through initiative and speed. It hosts the Sun's exaltation (deepest 10°), Saturn's debilitation, and Mars's moolatrikona span (0°–12°) inside his own sign. As a prishtodaya sign it is counted stronger at night in classical strength work; for lagna purposes it makes Mars the yogakaraka question turn on his condition, with the Sun a firm friend and Saturn functionally strained.
