Parashara describes Tula as a movable airy sign, male, shudra by caste in the classical listing, rising head-first, black in hue, dwelling in marketplaces — a man holding scales. Its lord is Shukra, whose moolatrikona occupies its first 15 degrees; Shani is exalted here at the 20th degree and Surya debilitated at the 10th.

A chara vayu-tattva sign ruled by Venus, hosting Saturn's exaltation (deepest 20°) and the Sun's debilitation — the two royal-axis reversals in one sign. Venus's moolatrikona spans 0°–15°. For Tula lagna Saturn is the yogakaraka (4th and 5th lord), and the marketplace signature makes this lagna a staple of trade and negotiation readings; the Sun's lordship of the 11th keeps his fall here from being purely adverse in gains matters.
