Frequently asked questions

What is Narayana Dasha in Jaimini astrology?

Narayana Dasha is a rasi dasha — a timing system where periods belong to the twelve zodiac signs rather than the nine planets. During a sign's dasha, the houses it represents, the planets placed in it, and its lord become active, making it a powerful tool for timing tangible life events.

Which sign does Narayana Dasha start from?

It starts from the stronger of the Lagna (ascendant sign) and the seventh sign from it. Strength is judged by the classical Jaimini rules — occupying planets, the influence of Jupiter, Mercury, and the sign's lord, exalted occupants, and the nature of the sign itself.

How is the length of each sign's dasha decided?

Count from the sign to the sign occupied by its lord (in reverse for even-footed signs) and subtract one — this gives the years, up to eleven. If the lord sits in its own sign, the period is twelve years. An exalted lord adds a year and a debilitated lord removes one. Scorpio and Aquarius use whichever of their two lords — Mars/Ketu and Saturn/Rahu — is stronger.

What are the two cycles of Narayana Dasha?

After the first cycle of all twelve signs, a second cycle runs in which each sign receives the balance of twelve years minus its first-cycle length, so the two cycles together always span 144 years. Later-life events are read from the second cycle.

How should Narayana Dasha be read alongside Vimshottari?

Vimshottari shows the karmic and psychological unfolding through planetary periods, while Narayana Dasha excels at timing external, material events through sign periods. Astrologers commonly confirm an event when both dashas point to the same houses at the same time. Our reports remain Vimshottari-based; this tool is for that deeper cross-check.
