Frequently asked questions

What is Yogini Dasha in Vedic astrology?

Yogini Dasha is a timing system that divides life into a repeating 36-year cycle of eight periods called yoginis. Each yogini is ruled by a planet — Moon, Sun, Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Saturn, Venus, and Rahu — and lasts from one to eight years. The starting yogini and its balance come from the Moon's nakshatra at birth.

How is the starting Yogini Dasha calculated?

The birth nakshatra of the Moon points to one of the eight yoginis, and the portion of the nakshatra the Moon has already crossed reduces the first period proportionally. The remaining periods then follow the fixed sequence: Mangala, Pingala, Dhanya, Bhramari, Bhadrika, Ulka, Siddha, and Sankata.

What do the different yoginis signify?

Broadly, Mangala brings movement and initiative, Pingala heat and effort, Dhanya growth and prosperity, Bhramari travel and change, Bhadrika communication and skill, Ulka strain and obstacles, Siddha accomplishment and ease, and Sankata difficulty and karmic testing. The ruling planet's condition in your chart refines each period's promise.

How are Yogini antardashas computed?

Within each mahadasha the eight yoginis run again as sub-periods, starting from the mahadasha's own yogini, with each sub-period proportional to its years out of the 36-year cycle. This calculator lists every antardasha with exact dates.

Should I use Yogini Dasha or Vimshottari Dasha?

Vimshottari remains the primary dasha for most schools, and our reports and predictions are built on it. Yogini Dasha works best as a second, confirming timeline — when both systems signal a similar phase, the timing indication is considered stronger.
