The Significance of Sita Navami

The Hindu festival of Sita Navami (also known as Janaki Navami) honors the birth of Goddess Sita, the wife of Lord Rama. It falls on the ninth day of the waxing moon in Vaishakha (April-May).

Goddess Sita is worshipped as the perfect example of purity, devotion, patience, and self-sacrifice. This day is observed by devotees, particularly married women, who fast, pray, and perform special rituals to implore blessings for marital bliss and well-being.

Birth of Goddess Sita

The Ramayana relates Sita’s discovery by King Janaka of Mithila, diverging from a typical birth narrative. Her name, Janaki, meaning daughter of Bhumi Devi (Goddess Earth), thus underscored her divine origins.

Sita’s unwavering righteousness and devotion to Lord Rama have made her a paragon of wifely, motherly, and queenly virtues, earning her widespread worship. Throughout her exile and captivity in Lanka, her unwavering patience and strength showcased her virtues of endurance, loyalty, and resilience.

It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi incarnated as Sita to help Lord Rama complete his divine mission. She exemplifies the ideal Hindu woman through her dedication to truth, her strength, and her selfless actions.
