Balarama Jayanti
The birth of Lord Balarama, elder brother of Krishna and eighth Vishnu incarnation, is celebrated by Hindus on the sacred festival of Balarama Jayanti. While many parts of India celebrate this on the Shravana Purnima full moon (July-August), other regions observe it on Akshaya Tritiya (April-May).
Lord Balarama embodies strength, loyalty, and agricultural abundance. They revere him for his strength, wisdom, and righteous way of life.
The Birth of Lord Balarama
According to Hindu scriptures, Balarama was transferred from Devaki’s womb to Rohini’s womb by divine intervention, which is why he is also called Sankarshana (the one who was drawn out). He was born as the seventh child of Vasudeva and Devaki and later became the elder brother of Lord Krishna.
The Protector and Guide: Lord Balarama is known for his strength and wisdom. He played a crucial role in supporting Krishna and guiding him in many battles.
The Master of Agriculture: Balarama is also associated with ploughing and farming, and he is worshiped as the god of agriculture and fertility. The Symbol of Dharma: While Krishna is known for his divine leelas (playful acts), Balarama represents discipline, morality, and duty.
