A planet is vargottama when it occupies the same sign in the birth chart and the navamsha — inner and outer agree, and the planet's promises gain unusual reliability. The rashi chart is the planet in the world, how it shows and acts; the navamsha is the planet within, closer to the soul and to what it truly means. Usually the two differ, and a planet wears one face outwardly and carries another beneath. Vargottama is the case where they fall in one and the same sign — the planet is undivided, its surface and its depth telling a single story. Read this as integrity and wholeness: what such a planet appears to be, it genuinely is, so its results come through steadily and ring true rather than promising one thing and delivering another. It is a strength that owes nothing to exaltation or ownership — even a modestly placed graha, when vargottama, stands firm and keeps its word. The one caution is that consistency cuts both ways: a benefic turned vargottama is dependably kind, but a troubled planet too becomes reliably itself, so whichever quality it carries — helpful or hard — is the one that holds.
