Varga
Rashi Chart (D1)

The D1 is the birth chart itself — the sky divided into twelve signs. Every other divisional chart refines it, but the D1 remains the trunk: body, life circumstances, and the overall promise.
The rashi chart heads Parashara's sixteen vargas; its deities are the devas, humans and rakshasas by drekkana class, and all bhava judgements begin here.
— Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra ṣoḍaśavarga adhyāya
Division: the whole 30° sign. Everything in the evidence layer — house placements, aspects, yogas, dashas — anchors to D1 positions unless a varga is named; vargottama means the D1 and D9 signs coincide.
