दीप्तादि अवस्था Dīptādi Avasthā

The deeptadi avasthas describe a planet's mood — radiant, delighted, calm, suffering, humbled, and so on — from its dignity, its company, and its condition such as combustion or defeat in war. If baladi is a planet's age, deeptadi is its state of mind. A planet keeps its nature wherever it goes, but its mood — and so the flavour in which its results arrive — shifts with its circumstances: exalted, it is radiant and confident (Deepta); in its own sign, at ease (Svastha); in a friend's, delighted (Mudita); in an enemy's, strained (Duhkhita); combust or beaten in a planetary war, humbled and agitated (Vikala, Kopita). The same Jupiter can bestow its blessings warmly or grudgingly depending on the company it keeps and the shape it is in. Reading the mood is how an astrologer answers not just whether a planet gives its results, but in what spirit they come — generously and cleanly, or through struggle and reluctance.
