Padmini Ekadashi 2026 Date

The Significance of Padmini Ekadashi

Padmini Ekadashi is a rare and highly auspicious Ekadashi observed during the Adhika Masa (extra lunar month), also known as Purushottama Masa, which occurs approximately once every three years. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this Ekadashi is believed to be extremely powerful in granting divine blessings, spiritual purification, and ultimate liberation (moksha).

Devotees who observe fasting, prayers, and acts of charity on this day seek freedom from sins, prosperity, and eternal peace.

The Story of King Kartavirya and Padmini Ekadashi

Despite his righteous rule, King Kartavirya Arjuna’s desire for an heir is recounted in Hindu scriptures, highlighting his lack of children. Queen Padmini, his wife, devoutly observed the Padmini Ekadashi fast, undertaking rigorous penance. Delighted by her devotion, Lord Vishnu granted her a boon, bestowing upon her a son who would one day become a great king. This story highlights how observing Padmini Ekadashi with faith leads to fulfilled desires, the overcoming of obstacles, and spiritual rewards.

This Ekadashi is exceptionally potent for achieving divine grace, purifying past sins, and attaining liberation (moksha). Fasting on this day is considered as spiritually significant as performing grand Vedic rituals or visiting sacred sites.

1. Observing Fasting and Devotion

  • Devotees observe a strict fast, avoiding grains, pulses, and tamasic foods.
  • Some follow nirjala vrat (fasting without water) to deepen their spiritual practice.
  • 2. Worship of Lord Vishnu and Recitation of Scriptures

  • Special Vishnu pujas, bhajans, and recitations of Vishnu Sahasranama and Bhagavad Gita take place in homes and temples.
  • Offering tulsi leaves, flowers, and prasad to Lord Vishnu is considered highly auspicious.
  • 3. Acts of Charity and Helping the Needy

  • Donating food, clothes, and essentials to the poor and Brahmins is believed to bring great spiritual merit.
  • Feeding cows, birds, and other animals is an important practice for accumulating positive karma.
  • This Ekadashi reminds us that faith, discipline, and selfless devotion bring true fulfillment and liberation.

May Lord Vishnu bless everyone with wisdom, peace, and spiritual awakening! 🙏🕉️
