Sanyasa Yoga FAQ
Sanyasa Yoga, also called Parivraja or Pravrajya Yoga, is a Vedic astrology yoga associated with detachment, renunciation, truth-seeking, austerity, and a life oriented toward higher purpose or liberation. It does not always mean literal monastic life, but it often shows a powerful inward pull away from ordinary worldly attachment.
In this calculator, Sanyasa Yoga is checked through several accepted patterns: Moon in Saturn’s drekkana with Mars and Saturn aspect, a benefic in Lagna with late Lagna degrees and Jupiter in kendra or trikona, Moon in a Mars-owned Navamsa with Saturn aspect, a five-planet conjunction in a kendra or trikona including the 10th Lord, or a conjunction of four or more planets in one house.
The calculator checks all the accepted Sanyasa-indicating combinations in the birth chart, then reviews which pattern is present and how strong it is. It also checks related Sadhu Yoga from Arudha Lagna separately, because saintly public perception and true renunciate tendency are related but not identical.
When strong and clean, Sanyasa Yoga can support detachment, spiritual seriousness, disciplined living, truth-seeking, reduced attraction toward ordinary material life, and in stronger cases a life path focused on liberation, service, or austerity.
If the yoga forms through the stronger four-planet or five-planet conjunction patterns, it is relatively resistant to outside affliction because the planetary energy becomes unified. But if it forms through lighter Moon-based or degree-based rules, heavy affliction can create an inner tug-of-war between detachment and attachment, leading to confusion or an inconsistent spiritual path.
Asceticism is seen, defined and practiced in different ways in different traditions and culture. Sanyasa, according to Vedic traditions, is a stage where a person lives their life, denouncing worldly attachments. According to Hindu traditions of the Ashrama system of stages in one’s life, there are four stages a person will go through.
Following 4 stages are explained according to our current lifestyle.
⚐ Brahmacharya, which is the first stage which lasts approximately until the age 25 or early 30s. Brahmacharya is the learning stage where the person learns about the world, people, history, science, universe and divine energy, and how they need to live, support, love and survive.
⚐ Grihastha is the second phase of life which lasts till 50s or till Shashti purthi (60’s). During this phase, the person lives a life with a partner (spouse) sharing everything equally with the spouse, to build a generation by teaching, caring and supporting the upcoming generation.
⚐ Vanaprastha is the 3rd stage, which is considered as a retirement life of the person where they do not actively participate in Grihastha activities, but will be more inclined towards spiritual learning and enlightening the same to others.
⚐ Sanyasa is the 4th and final stage in one’s life where they denounce all their worldly desires and attachments and live a pure non-illusionary spiritual life. The difference between Sanyasa and all other stages is, this stage occurs in one’s life as a choice. Meaning, Sanyasa can be taken by a person who finished their Brahmacharya skipping Grihastha and Vanaprashta or at any stage after Brahmacharya.
In Vedic astrology, Sadhu yoga is also seen as a kind of Sanyasa yoga, but the difference seen in here is in the reality. Meaning, Sadhu yoga is defined with reference to Aruda Lagna or how people perceive us. Even though Sadhu yoga is not exactly the same as Sanyasa in terms of lifestyle, mentality and practices, a person with Sadhu yoga is seen as a saintly, non-violent, and calm person by others around.
♦ Sadhu yoga is formed when only benefics occupies 3rd and 6th of the Aruda Lagna
Note: Yoga will also work if at least one of the house is occupied with a benefic while other is empty
🛈 This calculator will check both Sanyasa and Sadhu yoga combinations in the horoscope.
