Pancha Mahapurush Yogas FAQ
Mahapurush Yoga refers to the five celebrated Pancha Mahapurusha Yogas in Vedic astrology: Hamsa, Malavya, Bhadra, Ruchaka, and Sasha. These yogas indicate excellence, strong character, personal power, and the ability to rise through talent, discipline, and determination.
A Mahapurush Yoga forms when one of these five planets — Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Mars, or Saturn — is placed in a kendra house and occupies either its own sign or its exaltation sign. Each qualifying planet forms its own specific Mahapurusha Yoga.
The calculator checks whether Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Mars, or Saturn is placed in the 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th house and whether that planet is in own sign or exaltation. It then identifies which of the five Mahapurusha Yogas is formed and reviews whether the yoga planet is strong enough to deliver its results cleanly.
When strong and clean, Mahapurush Yoga can support confidence, success, resilience, strong character, and distinction in the domain of the planet forming it. Depending on the yoga, this may show as wisdom, luxury, academic ability, courage, justice, leadership, or disciplined excellence.
The yoga can weaken when the planet forming it receives strong affliction, becomes unstable in divisional strength, or is used in a way that goes against dharma. In such cases, results may still come, but with more struggle, distortion, or uneven expression until maturity improves.
When these planets occupy their own sign or their exaltation sign (ucha Rashi) and are situated in a Kendra house, Mahapurush yoga is formed in one's horoscope. Each Mahapurush yoga represents a specific quality of humans.
According to Mythology, Draupadi, the spouse of Pancha Pandavas, asked Lord Shiva for a boon in her previous birth, to have a husband with all the qualities a man can possess in this world. Lord Shiva replied that no man could have all the qualities as it would create an imbalance in the creation. He said, there are 14 sets of qualities which describes a perfect man. These 14 can be categorized under five groups known as Mahapurush yogas. Since Draupadi didn't withdraw her request, Lord Shiva granted her wish, but she had to Marry five Men, each with a specific Mahapurush yoga.
People born with Mahapurush Yoga will succeed in their lives with hard work and determination. It will be difficult for anyone to defeat them in their respective field of talent or career.
