Kurma Yoga Calculator
Kurma Yoga in Vedic astrology is about reputation, fame, and social influencing ability of a person. The yoga, though not very common among the planetary combinations, is not considered highly materialistic when compared to other such rare yogas.
Kurma Yoga FAQ
Kurma Yoga is an auspicious Vedic astrology yoga associated with reputation, righteous influence, meaningful public work, courage, and mission-driven success. It often reflects a person who can guide others and become known for steady, beneficial actions in society.
Kurma Yoga can form in two accepted ways. In one form, benefic planets occupy the 5th, 6th, and 7th houses in strong dignity such as exaltation, own sign, or friendly sign. In the other form, malefic planets occupy the 1st, 3rd, and 11th houses in similarly strong dignity.
The calculator checks both accepted Kurma Yoga patterns and verifies whether the involved planets are placed in exalted, own, or friendly signs. It follows the practical approach that either condition can be sufficient, rather than requiring both patterns at once.
When strong and clean, Kurma Yoga can support fame through meaningful work, social influence, righteousness, helpfulness, courage, and a steady sense of mission. It can also give a respected public image and long-term impact through purposeful action.
The yoga can weaken when the benefic pattern becomes contaminated by malefic affliction. In such cases, the person may struggle to maintain righteous direction under pressure, and influence or recognition may become less stable or more ethically tested.
Kurma, meaning the tortoise, is one of the incarnation of Lord Vishnu taken during the Samudra Manthana. As seen by the character of the incarnation, the native born with Kurma Yoga always carry a vision and mission in their life to benefit the society or a larger mass. A person born with Kurma yoga will be world famous for their influential works, righteous, happy in life, helpful to others, courageous, and be kind.
When benefic planets occupy 5th, 6th and 7th or malefic planets occupy Lagna, 3rd and 11th while these signs are their exaltation, own or friendly Rashis, Kurma Yoga is formed.
Note from Astrologer: The defnition given in BPHS and some other well accepted scripts, have certain ambiguity regarding the logic of planetary positions. Certain authors mention about benefics in lagna and upachaya of 3rd and 11th while BPHS says about malefics in 1st, 3rd and 11th. However, BPHS says that both benefic and malefic conditions must be met, which in my opinion is an impossible combination. Hence I am taking either one condition as good as suggested by Dr BV Raman in his book.
This calculator consider Mercury and Moon as always benefic for this yoga.
