Dusthana
The dusthanas are the difficult houses — 6, 8 and 12: illness, crisis, and loss
The dusthanas are the difficult houses — 6, 8 and 12: illness, crisis, and loss. Planets and lords entangled with them carry those themes into whatever else they rule. Together they form the chart's proving ground — the 6th of illness, debt, enemies and daily toil; the 8th of crisis, upheaval and hidden things; the 12th of loss, letting go, and what lies beyond the visible world. A planet placed here, or a lord dragged into one, tends to carry strain into the affairs it touches, and much of the difficulty a chart holds is read from these three. Yet they are not simply misfortune. They are also the houses of transformation, research, healing, endurance and release — the 6th gives the strength to overcome, the 8th the depth to go where others will not, the 12th the capacity to surrender and to seek liberation. And by a striking classical twist, when the lords of these houses confine their trouble to one another the harm can cancel and turn to gain — the vipareeta raja yoga, difficulty become advantage.
The trika sthanas mar what they touch: bhava lords placed in them suffer, and their own lords placed elsewhere carry affliction outward — save in the viparita reversals.

Houses 6/8/12. Dusthana placement is a core negative predicate in rules and salience scoring, disqualifies gemstone candidates, and — confined among its own lords — flips into vipareeta raja yoga.
