Vishwakarma Puja in Hindu Traditions
Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect and craftsman of the gods, is celebrated by Hindus during the Vishwakarma Puja festival. People observe Vishwakarma Jayanti, celebrating his birth, in the month of Bhadrapada (August-September) or Kanya Sankranti (mid-September). This festival holds special meaning for those in skilled trades—artisans, engineers, architects, craftspeople, factory workers, and industrialists—who seek blessings for their work.
Today, devotees honor tools, machines, and workplaces, recognizing the value of hard work, skilled craftsmanship, and technological progress.
Lord Vishwakarma – The Divine Architect
Hindu mythology credits Lord Vishwakarma as the universe’s celestial architect and engineer. His architectural achievements are legendary, encompassing the magnificent palaces of Amaravati for Indra, Dwarka for Krishna, and the holy city of Hastinapur. Legend also credits him with forging divine weapons such as Vishnu’s Sudarshana Chakra and Shiva’s Trishul.
Craftsmanship, skill, and technological excellence are celebrated during Vishwakarma Puja. Devotees believe that Lord Vishwakarma’s worship leads to prosperity, productivity, and protection against workplace accidents.
