Kaal Bhairav Jayanti - 15-June-2026

The Significance of Kaal Bhairav Jayanti

The Hindu festival of Kaal Bhairav Jayanti, also called Mahakaal Bhairav Ashtami, reveres Lord Kaal Bhairav, a powerful manifestation of Shiva. It falls on the eighth day of the waning moon in Margashirsha (November-December).

Lord Kaal Bhairav is seen as the protector of righteousness, the guardian of time itself, and the vanquisher of evil. People worship him for protection, strength, and spiritual growth.

The Birth of Kaal Bhairav

Hindu mythology tells of Kaal Bhairav’s emergence from Shiva\’s wrath, a punishment for Brahma’s arrogance. To punish Brahma for his overwhelming pride, Shiva created Kaal Bhairav; he then decapitated Brahma, removing one of his five heads as a symbol of the removal of arrogance and false knowledge. In this way, Kaal Bhairav became the blessed guardian of time and protector of all Shiva temples.

Worshipped as the Lord of Time (Kaal), he inspires devotees to use their time wisely for spiritual growth and righteous living. Cities, especially Varanasi, also consider him their guardian deity; there, he’s believed to protect devotees and bestow moksha (liberation) upon them.

People believe that the worship of Kaal Bhairav on this Jayanti removes negative energies, clears obstacles, and lessens the impact of adverse planetary positions. Courage, wisdom, and the overcoming of fear are among the blessings devotees seek from him.
