The Significance of Hanuman Jayanti

The birth of Lord Hanuman, the powerful and devoted follower of Lord Rama, is commemorated by Hindus during the sacred festival of Hanuman Jayanti; he embodies strength, devotion, and selfless service. The festival falls on the full moon of Chaitra (March-April) in most of India, although some areas observe it during Deepavali or Kartika (October-November).

Worshippers revere Lord Hanuman, embodying courage, wisdom, and divine protection, praying for strength, bravery, and life’s successes.

The Birth and Divine Purpose of Hanuman

Blessed by the Wind God, Vayu, Hanuman, son of Anjana and Kesari, was an incredibly powerful incarnation of Shiva. In the epic Ramayana, he played a vital part, his unwavering loyalty to Lord Rama instrumental in freeing Sita from Ravana. Selflessness, humility, and the strength of devotion are lessons from his life.

Known as Bajrangbali, meaning “one with the strength of a thunderbolt,” Hanuman symbolizes unmatched power and courage. His worship banishes fear, overcomes obstacles, and clears away negativity, leading to success and divine protection.

Devotees observe a full or partial fast, dedicating the day to prayers, meditation, and chanting Hanuman mantras.

Foods like jaggery, chana (gram), and fruits are offered to Hanuman as prasad.

Temples and homes conduct Hanuman Puja with Sindoor, oil lamps, flowers, and offerings.

Reciting Hanuman Chalisa, Sundara Kanda, and Hanuman Stotra is believed to grant strength and remove hardships.

Devotees visit Hanuman temples to seek his blessings for courage, wisdom, and success.

Some also offer red vermillion (sindoor) and jasmine oil as a mark of devotion.

Donating food, clothes, and helping the underprivileged is considered highly auspicious, as Hanuman symbolizes selfless service and compassion.
