Gayatri Jayanti - 15-June-2026
Gayatri Jayanti in Hindu Traditions
The appearance of Goddess Gayatri, representing wisdom, knowledge, and divine might, is commemorated during the holy Hindu festival of Gayatri Jayanti. This Ekadashi is observed during the waxing moon phase of Jyeshtha (May-June), on the eleventh day. Some traditions also observe it on Veda Vyasa Jayanti, coinciding with Guru Purnima.
Considered the mother of the Vedas and the highest source of spiritual illumination, Goddess Gayatri is deeply revered. The Gayatri Mantra, a sacred and powerful hymn in Hinduism, is chanted by devotees in her honor today.
The Divine Form of Goddess Gayatri
Goddess Gayatri is depicted as a radiant deity with five faces and ten hands, symbolizing the five elements of nature and divine wisdom. She is considered the shakti (power) of Lord Brahma, responsible for creation and the spread of knowledge.
The Gayatri Mantra, found in the Rig Veda (Mandala 3.62.10), is one of the most powerful Vedic chants. It is:“Om Bhur Bhuvah Swaha, Tat Savitur Varenyam, Bhargo Devasya Dhīmahi, Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayāt.”
Chanting this mantra is believed to awaken intelligence, bring mental clarity, and remove ignorance. It is believed that on Gayatri Jayanti, Sage Vishwamitra first revealed the Gayatri Mantra to humanity. Devotees observe this day to seek wisdom, enlightenment, and divine blessings for a righteous life.
